Totnes Town Council is inviting local businesses to take part in the 2024 Business Christmas Window competition and help create an extra special festive atmosphere in the town. Following the success of the competition in 2023, it is being organised again this year as part of the Town Council’s commitment to lighting up the town to bring cheer to the community and to give businesses an extra boost.
Cllr Emily Price, Mayor of Totnes, said: “Last year, Totnes looked even more magical than ever, thanks in part to the tremendous effort made by so many of our businesses who created wonderfully festive scenes in their windows. 29 businesses took part in our free to enter competition. They all made such a huge effort and it was really hard to choose the winners, but Penelope Tom took the honours for the best window below Eastgate Arch and Fox and Co was awarded the accolade for the best window above the Arch. Oliver’s Butchers scooped the win for the best decorated building frontage.
“This year I hope even more businesses will join in the fun and help us to create a very special town-wide spirit of festive togetherness that is good for our local economy and us all! Remember you’ve got to be in it to win it, so let us know if your business wants to take part by emailing us at reception@totnestowncouncil.gov.uk before 29 November 2024.”
There are three categories to enter – best window above the Eastgate Arch, best window below the Eastgate Arch and best decorated building frontage (whole town). In each category there are three prizes, £100 for first place, £75 for second place, and £50 for third place, making a total prize fund of £675.
Judging for the Totnes Town Council Christmas Business Competition will take place in early December. On November 26, 2024, Totnes Town Council will turn on the festive lights on the Market Square Christmas Tree and around the town at the Plains, the Shady Garden, the front of the Eastgate Arch, the Civic Hall, and in The Rotherfold. Together with the window displays in shops, Totnes Town Council hopes the Council’s investment in festive lights will not only share a little extra festive joy with local people and visitors but it will also help to give businesses in the town a welcome financial boost.
